It is the intent of the present Government to change our country’s Constitution by having the Parliament approve the new draft Constitution, which incidentally was commissioned by the Prime Minister.

This would mean a vote being taken by 31 Members of Parliament in favor of the new draft Constitution. The present administration is proposing that a person be appointed President by a simple vote in the Parliament without first going to a General Election.

Once the new Constitution is adopted, that’s it! There is no provision for term limits and no provision for Referendum or Recall.

Worst than that under Clause 50 [1] it says ‘ The President shall not be answerable to any court for the performance of the functions of his office or for any act done by him in the performance of those functions’.    

A Constitution is a contract between the State and the People. We the People must therefore be the ones who will approve or reject any proposed new Constitution. After all it is our contact, isn’t it?
